Oh yeah Volmuth will be starting no doubt. I want to see if some of these pitchers are going to be any good.

I'd say that's pretty close...Cork said that Copeland was without a doubt the "key" to the rotation cuz iffen he can't fill up Saturday then we'll have to go too deep in the bullpen before pitcher du jour on Sunday...And yes, Vollmuth will not only start...he'll hit at least 20 bombs...you heard it first

He and Brunty could make a pretty good combo.

kickingtee wrote:Mingo' really struggling with fastball. Topping at 83. Getting bombed.

kickingtee wrote:Nah, you don't redshirt JUCOs.

His fastball is good for location.
Never has been one to light up the radar gun.

kickingtee wrote:Whose worrying? Made 2 statements that I stand by. Redshirting a juco is defeating the very purpose for signing one, and that is immediate help. My second statement is that Mingo can't break a window with his fastball, and believe me, I am expert at breaking windows! I never said that he couldn't be effective. He just don't have a dayem good fastball!! Geesh!PS. I agree his fastball is for location, on the rails to trails!

We walked in the winning run against the #1 team in the country last year. It won't take much difference in pitching to be considered an improvement.

Of course, making the CWS in the first place is not firm evidence of decent pitching.

It doesn't defeat the purpose if said pitcher isn't a "need". If Mingo was a power pitcher with a live fastball and a good slider/change and he was redshirted, then yes, the purpose was defeated. But, that's why we got Ryan McNamara.
Mingo is one of about 4-5 "junk ball" pitchers that USM has. He could use a year of development. Doesn't mean he WILL be redshirted.
His pickoff move is ridiculous.
